Distiller hangs: OffendingCommand: ÐÏࡱá

Distiller 5.0 hangs halfway through task. The output is:

I have no problems in the past with Distiller. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

This shouldn't hang. It should just stop after an error like this.

Distiller does not read Word documents, never has. This is a normal
error if you try. Distiller only opens PostScript files.

By the way, if this is the regular Distiller, rather than the
Distiller SERVER, I recommend the Acrobat forum.
